Editorial Cbad Abierto | "In Cuba, we are all revolutionaries". That, "says Maria Torrellas," said one of the protagonists of his documentary Cubanas. Mujeres en Revolución, which was premiered at the Gaumont Cinema only 65 years after the Assault of the Moncada Barracks, the moment when the Cuban Revolution began to walk its history.

For more than 20 years, Torrellas has been part of the Latin American abstract, which produces the documentary. "With this group, we often went to Cuba and we reflected the Cuban reality throughout this period.I also lived there a few seasons," says this award-winning Basque filmmaker who currently resides in Argentina and who professes a love for Cuba that insinuates itself in its history

What will we find when we see Cubanas Women in the Revolution ?

– This documentary wants to be a tribute to all Cuban women and fighters. The two now, young people, those born in the revolution, like those heroines who were hiding, who were in the Revolutionary War and then held positions of responsibility throughout Cubanas Women in Revolution connects the stories of each other There are many areas of work: there are internationalists, there are scientists, there are students , girls who make music, dance. There are grandmothers in the square who tell us how much they live in Cuba as a grandmother. It is a kind of chorus of voices and expressions, all lived with a lot of emotion.

For the documentary Torrellas, testimonies and experiences of heroines such as Vilma Espín and Celia Sánchez, creators of the revolutionary work. And even Haydée Santamaría, who was part of the group of young people who took the Moncada on July 26, 1953. Workers, doctors, scientists, artists and social and political activists build a story that goes through history and shares plans of the Literacy in the 60's, up to the LGTBI parades for the defense of badual diversity

Why did you decide to make this film?

-While we are having such a bad time women for patriarchy, both in Latin America and in other parts of the world, I have always admired the achievements that Cuban women have accomplished and of which we do not even dream yet. How they built this humanist society where women are treated with so much respect, with so much love. My motivation was: to give hope to women. Know that we must continue to fight and that we can achieve what has been achieved in Cuba.

Being a woman in Cuba looks different from being in a capitalist country …

-Feminicide does not even exist as a figure because it's something very weird . In Cuba, they do not kill you to be a woman or to be trans. They are at a higher level. There is the legal abortion for which we fought 60 years ago now, and they have bad education since elementary school where children learn to respect each other, to s & dquo; Listen to each other. In Cuba, there is no gender pay gap, equal pay for work. And that's not part of capitalism like that. It is the country where women and girls are the happiest.

How long did this documentary take you?

-A friend reminded me the other day: "Maria, you've told me about this documentary, fifteen years". And it is that since that time I am with the idea, knowing the compañeras, doing interviews for Latin American Summary. And that's how it was built as we always do documentaries that are a lung, realized little by little. Because behind this is my love of the revolution, my admiration . But when we saw the opportunity to do it, we got there, which was last year when we started shooting there.

What will the viewer see?

-C is an opportunity to know Cuban feminism so humanistic, so inclusive, that it has been able to fight for a transformation of the whole society, men, women, badual diversity. And it is also the opportunity to share this tribute to the revolution, because I believe that the revolution should be a legacy of humanity.
