Cuba, the island where you find freedom

Although founder of the wave of new Latin American cinema, he published this phrase in Fidel Castro's Cuba and specifically referred to the great dreams and ideas that were born in the film school; today, I would like to go beyond the borders of the EICTV.

Cuba has become an exotic destination for tourists from around the world. They find on the island an extraordinary human warmth and an experience that transports you to a time machine. Something that probably does not exist elsewhere on the planet.

It's a magical place, a space where utopia begins to be questioned and for those who walk on this territory for the first time, love at first sight is what you will experience. But after making a parade of kindness from the communist island, I wonder: what Cuba has that she enchants and loves? My answer, after visiting this country several times, is: freedom

I will not go into political details, nor into ideological definitions; I will devote myself to what should really matter to us in life: "humanity and the happiness of the people".

In Cuba, we are liberated from many contaminating and enslaving elements that we have every day in our countries. Two of them are: Internet and cell phone.

We are probably so used to this and it has become routine to have a phone with a data plan and a series of distracting elements, which we probably do not realize in a society, where we are children, parents, brothers, husbands and friends.

I put for example a dinner between a couple or a group of friends in Panama: The phone becomes part of the decoration of the table. It's the entrance, the main course and the dessert. Conversations are nil or simply superficial. Probably if I do a study and I ask the people they talked about during dinner they will not remember, but they will have in mind the latest viral video or meme of the moment.

Now I am transported to Cuba. Here, there are limitations for the Internet and wifi only works on specific sites. Do not expect to find in a restaurant unless it's a great hotel, but certainly on the island you eat better in well-known palaces and in these cozy little businesses there are no way to connect your phone, so the experience is true.

At a dinner in Cuba with friends or as a couple, it's really a conversation. Certainly, there is human warmth, we listen to each other, we look at each other, we get along, we love each other, we become who we are and, above all, we find freedom.

You can travel long distances, observe all around you, enjoy the landscape and While the selfie and the photos are not lacking, you do not kill yourself to download them on social networks to chase tastes.

That explains why at the beginning of this blog I said that Birri's utopian place was beyond EICTV. It is impossible to imagine a world without internet connection, but it becomes a reality in Cuba. And although many will argue that it's retrograde, I believe that there must be a balance and that it simply means that Aristotle spoke of was lost in Panama when we talk about it. 39, use of technology.
