Guanacaste produces nearly 40% of the national electricity

Allan Madriz | EP. Since the early 1990s, Guanacaste has left 38.22% of Costa Rica's electricity, making the province the heart of the country's renewable energy production.

Data from the Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE), they point out that between facilities of the institution, cooperatives and the private sector, there is a total of 27 power stations that provide power to the National Electrical System (SEN) and are essential to ensure national supply.

One of the main features of this Guanacaste electrical energy supply is that everything comes from the five renewable sources of the national matrix: water, geothermal, wind, biombad and sun.

The three hydropower plants: Arenal, Dengo and Sandillal, which operate in cascade with water from Lake Arenal, contribute about 20% of Costa Rica's annual electricity consumption.

In the province there are a total of six geothermal plants, ice, which have an installed capacity of nearly 200 megawatts. While 14 wind power plants between the private sector and ICE generate about 350 megawatts

in smaller quantities, but in addition to the national power generation, the two private biombad power plants and the two power plants solar (ICE and Coopeguanacaste) generating nearly 60 megawatts
