The summer course "African-American Insurgencies" and the second edition of Casa Tomada Workshop will be two of the most important proposals of the usual summer season that Casa de las Américas organizes each year and which begins this month of July and will end at the end of the month of August.

"African-American Insurgents" will be the first summer course organized by the Afro-American Studies Program of this cultural institution. It will be held from July 9 to 13, at the seat of the House, at Third and G, from nine o'clock in the morning to two o'clock in the afternoon.

The course will be structured by three general topics:

] African-American Letters, Thought and Rebels. Three daily conferences and their respective exchange sessions are announced in which issues relating to Cuba's languages ​​and literature and to the "Black Americas" will be addressed; relevant figures of Afro-America culture, arts, pedagogy and social thought, including Cuba; as well as events of politico-social relevance and subversive cultural processes that, "from the bottom up," contributed to the construction of African-American identities. According to sources from the Casa de las Americas, from Tuesday, July 17th to Thursday, July 19th will be held the II Taller Casa Tomada: Cartographies of Thought and Action of Youth in the 21st Century. This course proposes, on the basis of the experience of the three previous international meetings (2009, 2013, 2017), to map the thought and the young creation of this century in the Americas, in order to constitute the platform of the next meeting 2020 under the theme "Land and territory."
