With 44 films in competition, thematic workshops, tributes, exhibitions of visual arts and staging, concerts of prestigious singer-songwriters … the Gibara Festival is underway. development.

tributes, memorable visual arts and staging shows, concerts of prestigious songwriters such as Silvio Rodríguez and Fito Páez, as well as an extensive program dedicated to children and adolescents , privileged groups in this opportunity, from July 1st to 7th XIVth Gibara International Film Festival

In this edition, which coincides with the tenth anniversary of the physical disappearance of its president and founder, the talented filmmaker Humberto Solás, badumes the third consecutive year the event another major figure of the seventh art in the country, the actor and director Jorge Perogurría, who accepted a brief dialogue with the Cubarte newspaper.

Usually, the Festival is dedicated to a country, which they have as guest of honor. This year, you have decided to dedicate it to children and adolescents, which is not usual in an event of this type. What motivated them?

Given the interactive spirit of the Festival and as we had left our usual appointment in April of this year for the holidays, we told ourselves that, instead of inviting a country, we invite the country of children and adolescents.

And, as the Festival has this interactive and multicultural character, it allows us to bring drama, movies, and musical groups for children of these ages. So, we started designing with all the alternative things that this event has. It was very enjoyable and the children of Gibara are grateful. I think they like it a lot

As far as programming is concerned, this edition of the Festival is richer, more complete in its proposals.

There is definitely a jump in all segments of the Festival. In cinema programming, in concerts, in exhibitions … There is a leap in level, that is what we wanted: to organize and grow little by little. I think we are doing it and we are very happy.

The Festival reached a visibility that had been diluted, in this pbadage from Cinema Pobre to Gibara FIC. And I believe that, each time, we all have more clearly the Festival that we want to do, the Festival that we want to project.

We did very well because it motivates not only the gibareños, the orientals, especially the holguineros; but also to habaneros and even to people who live abroad who have bought tickets to come and enjoy a concert, movies or exhibitions.

Still with the original budgets of a cinema of the author …

This is true. In the cinematographic part, we always keep the original concepts, but the actors and directors who come help us to gain visibility and prestige at the Festival. In any part of the world, it's like that.

They are also aware that the cinema that we are interested in supporting ourselves is the auteur cinema and that we will not give up, because they are also part of this cinema. that they like, although sometimes they end up making it a more commercial or according to the industry. But everyone appreciates this effort to keep alive the cinematic art.

Without questioning the level of convening of its organizers, I think that the Gibara Festival has a special mystique very attractive … [19659003] Yes, from Humberto. Since its creation, the Festival is like that. When Rolling Honey for Ochún, Humberto introduced me to Gibara, he did it as someone who introduced a girlfriend. He spoke to me of Gibara with such an illusion that he managed to convey it to me. He was in love with Gibara

What do you think of when you see yourself in Gibara, directing this Festival to which Humberto Solas dedicated so much?

That I'm still under the direction of Humberto, my last film with him.
