In the XXIVth edition of the National Festival of Aquelarre Humor 2018, one of the most anticipated events by the public to enjoy the presence of artists on stage, shows were presented in the centers Bertolt Brecht and Raquel Revuelta, the Salle Adolfo Llauradó and the theaters Karl Marx and Mella, where different ways of conceiving and staging works representative of the Cuban society today could be appreciated, in the functions of the groups Caricare, Etcétera, The wood of humor, Teatro Tuyo, The Oveja Negra, Avispas, Pagola the paga, Stadio Andante Theater, Komotú and Carcajada
As part of the meeting, the National Prize of humor 2018 was awarded to Octavio Fernández, Churrisco and cartoonist Pedro Méndez
The humor was (and is) one of our main badets in Cuban culture, with a strong présenc e in the various artistic manifestations. It is therefore not surprising that the meeting was devoted to music and baseball, two expressions of our idiosyncrasies, discussed and debated in the sessions of the theoretical event, as an indissoluble part of what we call Cuban identity and national identity. This popular spirit and this ability to laugh allowed us to have another look at difficult situations. From vernacular to more contemporary theater, humor has vibrated with a powerful force to pursue one of its fundamental goals: gaining audience and originality.
