FAO: Cuba confirms adherence to the Code of Responsible Fisheries

Havana, July 10 (RHC) Raidel Borroto, Director of Fishing Regulations of the Ministry of Food Industry (Minal) of Cuba, confirmed on July 10 in Rome the attachment of his country to the Code of Fisheries
At the 33rd Session of the Committee on Fisheries of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the Executive has informed last year, taking into account the Code of Conduct Fishing, the largest island of the West Indies approved the new policy in this area through a process of development and popular consultation that took more than four years.
"This policy has identified the main problems affecting the fisheries and aquaculture sector established the guiding principles of national fisheries management as a precautionary principle and ecosystem approach," he added .
Prior to the approval of the aforementioned document, Licor Borroto to the plenary of the committee of experts, in 2015 the National Plan of Action of sharks and rays of the Republic of Cuba was presented to FAO in Havana
"The project which, in addition to facilitating the respect of all the actions planned in the first cycle of implementation allowed to organize the statistics of fishing of these species and the realization of different lines of research that will have a regional impact, given the ecological characteristics and the geographical position of Cuba ".
