The 14th International Gibara Film Festival concludes • Workers

With a concert of Argentine singer-songwriter Fito Páez and the prize of the best films of the contest, the XIV Gibara International Film Festival concluded, which during the first seven days of July brought to the coastal town of Holguín different artistic manifestations, in which gibareño people nested in a special way.

The Jibá Cinema was once again the closing gala theater, where, among other awards, the "Lucía" awards were awarded to the best fiction films. Meanwhile, Nicolas Wackerbarth's German film Casting, won the jury's special "Lucía" prize, in addition to the press prize, Shared with the film Vivir and Other Fictions, by Jo Sol (Spain).

Also the laurels in action fell on Noelia Campo ( Los Modernos ) and Peter Paul Muller, for the feature Bram Fischer (South Africa-Netherlands). With the Special Prize of the Public, the feature film Sergio y Sergei, by Ernesto Daranas (Cuba) was awarded

The documentary Organ, to the rhythm of the wire mill , with a script and direction of the Cuban Rosa María Rodríguez Pupo, received the Humberto Solás Prize for the current films, while the Writer Award won Guanajay, by Carlos Díaz Lechuga.

This Festival, a continuation of the Pobre Cinema of Gibara, founded by Humberto Solás, focused its attention on childhood and adolescence and, according to Jorge Perugorría, its director, chose the increase the quality of film screenings, concerts and exhibitions.

Perugorría declared open the call to the XV Festival and thanked the authorities of Holguín and Gibara, the sponsors of the event, and in particular the gibareños, to make possible once again this enterprise cultural, where the seventh art.
