They dismissed musicians engaged by Gaesa in the bars of Old Havana: "They are not profitable"

The Agency of Artistic Shows (Turarte) is preparing to send back the musicians who have hired and who work in the bars and restaurants of Old Havana. This was confirmed by Diario de Cuba bbadist Jorge Enrique Vigo Duarte, director of Havana Soul group, who plays at the bar La Lluvia de Oro.

Two months ago, Turarte warned me not to renew the contract because "they are not profitable", although they are paid 8 CUC per month. The musicians had sought refuge in the provincial union. Although they work ten hours, they only pay five. They continue to work because they live on tips.

The situation is precarious since they've been hired by Habaguanex. Now, with Gaesa, the military emporium, they end up losing their jobs and despite the low pay, they are required to dress appropriately. They must also badume the provision of their instruments and food expenses during working hours.

The question of profitability, explains another musician who plays Café París, is questionable because they are the ones who attract tourists. Those who will swell the ranks of Cuban unemployment believe that they are taking to the streets to demand better wages.

Most of the musicians affected by the Turarte staff cup have more than 10 years of work in the bars of Havana. Former, so the dismissal will result in forced retirement.
