Ensemble Vocal Luna, led by teacher Wilmia Verrier, participated in the X Choral Olympics organized by the German Interkultur Company in Pretoria, South Africa, where she won the gold medal in the category Modern Music.

Coral was celebrated for the first time on the African continent and it is also the first time that a Cuban choir has participated in the event.

The female choral group premiered a special concert with a varied repertoire including sacred music Cuban Songs and a traditional song used in Zulu ethnic weddings.

At the second presentation at the event, he shared the stage with choral groups from Russia, South Africa and Belgium. On this occasion, they performed works by Carlos Pérez Tabares and George Gershwin; as well as the lullaby Drume Negrito and a song of Nigerian folklore entitled Kaki Lambe .

The Cuban band conquered the audience with its exquisite blend of vocals, freshness, choreography and impeccable performance of the performed acts, and without a doubt the jury, since it won a gold medal in the Contemporary Music categories and Female Chamber Choir at an event attended by 300 groups from 60 countries.

Vocal Ensemble Luna is composed of 14 members. His first South Africa was held in the Musaion Hall of the University of Pretoria, the capital of this country, where he was acclaimed by about 1,200 people.

Young Cuban singers have been chosen by the organizers of the X Chorales Choirs Champions, reserved for those who have received awards in the world festivals from 2016 to 2018.

Vocal Luna will offer, after the competitions, a series of presentations organized by the Cuban Embbady in South Africa in tribute to the legendary anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela to the centenary of his birth, to commemorate July 18th.
