Cubs count on stars to win final against Brewers

CHICAGO – The presence of new heroes during the season is a good thing, but to succeed, a group must do their best to succeed.

That was the truth in the Cubs final against the Brewers on a cool, rainy Sunday night at Wrigley Field. The guys that fans have been used to helping their team over the past five years have won a series of wins in nine innings.

Jon Lester spared his exhausted work with a remarkable performance, while Javier Baez and Kris Bryant scored critical success in a 4-1 win over Milwaukee on Sunday. This effort, combined with Saturday's 15-round win, gives the Cubs a series victory over their division rivals, placing them at a two-game top of the season ahead of the Brewers for first place in NL Central.

Lester was at the center of the stage at a party in which the Cubs' group needed their bravery after a 15-win victory on Saturday. The southpaw started doing his job, scoring two outs in the seventh, tuning only one point while eliminating six hitters while starting one.

He took the lead thanks to Javier Baez, whose double in the fifth inning brought Kris Bryant to the head of the Cubs. That success extends Baez's success streak to 11 games, but Bryant remains perhaps the team's best hitter, since he hit three more times in the evening.

His seventh inning circuit, which has two innings, put the game aside to give him his fifth round of May with his 12th and 13th points produced.

Brandon Kintzler and Steve Cishek completed the pen effort as the Cubs won a game with a series thanks to the play of their stars who led the team to NL Central.
