New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Monday announced a battle plan for the state to tackle the coronavirus pandemic and, while boasting to reporters about its willingness to wear a mask, helped reduce the number of cases in the state, neither he nor his assistants on the dais – including State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker – wore face masks.

“These transmissions took place in enclosed spaces that had inadequate ventilation,” the website said.

During his briefing on Monday, the governor noted that nearly two-thirds of recent COVID-19 cases in the state have come from small “spreading” gatherings.

The governor’s communications officer, Peter Ajemian, told the New York Post in an email Monday, “We follow and exceed all health guidelines to keep our briefings safe – period.”

“They all wore masks when entering and leaving the briefing room and could not be socially left behind,” Ajemian added.
