New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo defended President Trump this week, as the three-term Democratic governor indicated that the media did not treat the president with the respect the office commands.
Cuomo said in an interview with WAMC radio on Monday that the press had taken on a “meaner tone,” which he noticed at his press conferences and across the country, describing a “disrespect that never existed ”.
“The way they question President Trump at some of these press conferences is fair – I’ve never heard that tone with the president,” Cuomo said.
When asked by Alan Chartock of the WAMC if the president “deserves it,” Cuomo said there is supposed to be “decorum” for the institution – indicating that even if you don’t like a person, you always respect the institution it represents.
“There are reporters who are just unprofessional, who don’t know the facts, and who ask really biased questions,” Cuomo explained. “You mean ‘well, I don’t like the president and I don’t respect him,’ I know but it’s still the president’s office.”

While Trump is known for his controversial dealings with the media – regularly calling various networks for their coverage of his presidency and campaigns – Cuomo has also had his fair share of tense confrontations with reporters.
Last week, for example, the governor drew attention for his hostile responses to reporters who were confused about New York’s school closure plan.
When a reporter said he was “still very confused” Cuomo replied “so you are confused!”
“No, [parents are] not confused. You are confused, ”Cuomo told the reporter. Read the law and you will not be confused. “
While Trump and Cuomo have clashed publicly on numerous occasions, they were able to work together during the worst of New York City’s early coronavirus outbreaks to flatten the curve.
