New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who came under scrutiny on Wednesday after a former aide accused him of sexual harassment, called on then-Supreme Court candidate Brett Kavanaugh to submit to a lie-detection test amid sexual assault allegations in 2018.
Cuomo spoke in September 2018 during Senate hearings regarding Kavanaugh’s potential appointment to the court. At the time, Kavanaugh’s outlook was questionable following allegations by Christine Blasey Ford, who swore the judge sexually assaulted her at a party in 1982 when they were in high school.

In a statement to then-President Donald Trump, Cuomo said he found Ford’s testimony “very compelling.” He pointed out that Ford, unlike Kavanaugh, had taken a polygraph test and called on Trump to “insist” that the judge take a test.
“Here’s a basic fact that hurts Judge Kavanaugh very much: Why doesn’t he take a polygraph? Dr. Ford did,” Cuomo said. “If he doesn’t pass a polygraph test, it’s the ultimate,” he said, she said. “If he refuses, you should withdraw the date,” Cuomo added. “It will show at least a minimum of fairness on your part. Kavanaugh has repeatedly denied the allegation and was later upheld in the Supreme Court despite fierce opposition. The New York Post was the first to resurface Cuomo’s comments.
Lindsey Boylan, Cuomo’s former aide and current Manhattan Borough presidential candidate, has accused the governor of various cases of sexual harassment and unwanted touching during her tenure in administration. Boylan alleged Cuomo asked him to play “strip poker” on a robbery in 2017, kissed her on the lips during a meeting in his New York office and “went out of his way” to touch it.

Cuomo’s press secretary Caitlin Girouard dismissed Boylan’s allegations and cited former aides who said the strip poker conversation “did not happen.”
“As we have said before, Ms. Boylan’s allegations of inappropriate behavior are simply false,” Girouard said in a statement.
