Cut down trees, cut power to thousands of people in the area

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Thousands of households lost power in Hampton Roads on Friday night due to strong storms that swept through the area.

Dominion Energy said at one point that 4,600 customers were without electricity in southeastern Virginia, including about 3,000 at Newport News. York County was also hard hit, with 1,366 customers out of power. In Chesapeake, 250 households lost their power supply and Hampton 200. The other cities have little or no power outages.

Viewers have reported the presence of trees in the Colony Pines neighborhood and on Colony Road near Sanford Elementary. Viewers also reported trees in Sussex County, Williamsburg and Norfolk, where one of them fell on a house.

More than 300 people were also powerless in Gloucester.
