CVS Health is moving forward with its new health-focused store concept.

CVS launched the HealthHub format in February at three new CVS pharmacy locations in Houston. On Tuesday, the company announced the opening of additional health centers in Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia / New Jersey South and Tampa this year. In the long term, 1,500 health centers are expected to be operational by the end of 2021.

The format, described by CVS as "a powerful example of how CVS Health can provide consumers with convenient, personalized and integrated access to local health care," focuses on health services and products rather than on health care. categories of traditional pharmacies such as greeting cards. Since the takeover of the health insurer Aetna, the group is striving to transform its stores, make customers healthier and reduce the costs of health care.

Renovated store design allocates 20% of the space to health services, including durable medical equipment and supplies, as well as new combinations of products and services to help clients manage conditions such as sleep apnea and diabetes care. It also offers personalized and group counseling by a registered dietitian, as well as access to a free digital app for weight loss.

In addition, HealthHub sites include community spaces, with "wellness rooms" available to CVS professionals and community partners to host group events, including health classes, nutrition seminars and benefits. Customers can explore health and wellness apps, as well as CVS 'wide range of online products, on available iPads. They can also measure and track their blood pressure, weight and BMI at the store's health kiosks.

According to a CNBC report, CVS could modify designs for different markets and store sizes.

"We are satisfied with the customer feedback we received on HealthHubs," said Kevin Hourican of CVS Pharmacy in an interview with CNBC. He added that HealthHub stores have seen increased traffic in MinuteClinics, an increase in early sales and an increase in prescriptions.

CVS announced Tuesday the HealthHubs expansion at Investor Day 2019.

"Our goal is to fundamentally transform the consumer health experience for the millions of Americans we interact with every day, while creating value for our patients, our members, our partners and our shareholders." said Larry J. Merlo, President and CEO of CVS Health. "We have worked with Aetna to create a powerful and unique business model that will guide our journey to become the most consumer-centric healthcare company."
