New details show that CD Projekt RED’s highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 will launch with a big day one patch that hits 43GB on consoles.

It looks like CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 will launch with a day one patch that weighs in at 43GB. Given the game’s most recent 21-day delay, in addition to the news that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions were the main cause, such a heavy fix isn’t is not surprising. Still, this is sure to turn out to be rather inconvenient, especially considering the base game’s reported install size of over 71GB.

At the end of October, CD Projekt RED pushed the RPG out of its November release date, penciling it in for a December launch. Thanks to details shared during an investor call with Chairman and Co-CEO Adam KiciƄski, the reason for the third delay became evident. Now that review copies are sent out to the press and various content creators, more granular details are starting to emerge. Earlier today, YouTuber Dreamcast Guy posted an image on Twitter of the game being installed on a console. According to the picture, Cyberpunk 2077 has a 43.5gb patch on day one. Based on another tweet from Dreamcast Guy, this information more than likely relates to the Xbox One version. However, it is possible that the day one update of the PS4 version will also require a considerable amount of space.

Maybe the extra work on the title’s PS4 and Xbox One SKUs can explain the massive Day 1 patch? Such a notion does not seem beyond the realm of the possible. The question now is whether the base game and the Day 1 update will require the same amount of space on the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, given the impressive SSD technology of each console.

Of course, the overall size of Cyberpunk 2077 will continue to climb for several months after its release. Of course, much of this will be due to post-launch updates. But CD Projekt RED’s ambitious DLC plans are sure to add some heft to the size of the game. Depending on how the studio chooses to roll out their multiplayer content, that could increase as well. Cyberpunk 2077of already incredible demand for additional space. Players can keep those thoughts aside for now, however, as information about the DLC will not be released until after its launch. Likewise, details related to multiplayer are being recorded for early 2021.
