Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer isn’t just a mode, it’s a ‘standalone product’

CD Projekt Red has revealed more information about the Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer component which is expected to arrive sometime after the main game launches.

CD Projekt Red co-CEO Adam Kicinski explained during the studio’s latest results briefing that calling the multiplayer side of the game “ fashionable ” is actually something of a misnomer.

According to Kicinski, CD Projekt Red actually sees multiplayer more as a “standalone product”.

“So, first of all, we don’t call them fads,” Kicinski said during an earnings call transcribed by Seeking Alpha. “It’s a separate dedicated production, a large production. We see it as a stand-alone product. “

The multiplayer portion of the game will be connected to the single player version, but will operate individually – with a separate team working to provide ongoing content for the multiplayer mode. We know the multiplayer side started off as a concept exploration and then went into full development.

The fact that you haven’t heard anything about Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer yet is also down to the design, with the studio wanting to stay quiet about the mode until people have had a chance to enjoy what the main game is. has to offer.

We’ve heard before that the multiplayer portion of the game is unlikely to arrive in 2021, so expect news to trickle down quite slowly on this one.

All in all, this is quite similar to what Rockstar is doing with Red Dead Online and GTA Online, but we’ll have to wait and see the game in action before making any direct comparisons.

Kicinski says we can expect to hear more about Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer in Q1 2021.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases December 10 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, and Stadia, and CD Projekt Red has pledged (again) to no longer delay the game.
