If you ask me, virtual reality is the best thing that has come to the game since the invention of the joystick thanks to the ability of the platform to place users in a totally alternative reality. Unfortunately, the spell is instantly broken when you have to take a single step. Cybershoes, a gadget that looks like heels and sandals in equal parts, aims to solve this problem.
Marketed as a "high-end solution for virtual reality locomotion", Cybershoes are an accessory device for virtual reality systems compatible with Steam VR. This means that they can be used with Oculus, HTC, Pimax and other headsets.
They come with a "special" rug and require the use of a swivel chair or stool – you can not get up and walk on it. A roll integrated in the bottom of the shoes translates your movements of march and race into movements in the game.
According to the company behind Cybershoes (also called Cybershoes), they are supported by some of the most popular virtual reality games, including Arizona Sunshine, Fallout VR, and Skyrim VR among many others.
Sitting on a chair and dragging your legs and feet on the floor is not exactly the same as running across the snowy expanses of Skyrim to hunt loose mages (I see you, fire wizard) I'm trying to climb up and down rocky hills with a Vive controller with comic effect). But, it is probably better to stay upright, get screwed by bad guys without finding a valid location to teleport.
The cybershoes start at $ 400 – you will have to provide your own chair. The company also sells a version with a chair, an arcade version and a professional version.
