ANKARA, Turkey – Josef Sural, the Czech international, was killed and six other Alanyaspor players were injured on Monday while their van was involved in an accident on the way home after a football match Turkish.
Alanyaspor channel president Hasan Cavusoglu told NTV by telephone that Sural, 28, had died at the hospital during an emergency surgery.
The other six players would have been in a stable state.
Cavusoglu said Sural and his six teammates had hired a private luxury van to return from a match in Kayserispor, in central Turkey. The accident occurred near the city of Alanya, on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey.
Cavusoglu stated that the driver of the van had been questioned by the police.
"Our pain is huge," said Cavusoglu.
The state-run Anadolu Agency said the van had left the road and returned. Injured players have been identified as Wanderson Baiano, Steven Caulker, Isaac Sackey, Papiss Demba Cisse, Welinton Souza and Djalma Campos.
Sural, an attacker who made his debut with the national team of the Czech Republic in 2013, joined Alanyaspor in January.
