Daily Mail owner calls for cuts from CBS ‘Oprah With Meghan and Harry’ Special

Lawyers for the British tabloid have written to ViacomCBS asking that the “offensive content” be removed before a replay of the interview with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Associated Newspapers, owner of the UK’s Daily Mail tabloid, wrote to ViacomCBS calling for the removal of “offensive content” in Oprah Winfrey’s much-publicized interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Attorneys for Associated Newspapers objected to images from a newspaper headline montage that they say have been tampered with or distorted and demand that they be removed from the TV special.

“As a responsible and honest broadcaster, we therefore believe that you will belittle, as we do, the deliberate distortion and treatment of newspaper headlines in the deceptive montage of UK newspapers that air in ‘Oprah with Meghan and Harry’. either taken out of context or deliberately edited and displayed as evidence to support the program’s claim that the Duchess of Sussex has been the subject of racist coverage by the British press, ”Elizabeth Hartley wrote, legal director of the Associated Newspapers group.

“I would be grateful for your urgent confirmation that the offending content will be removed from the program currently available to the public. We also understand that another broadcast is scheduled for tonight. The edit should therefore be removed prior to this broadcast, ”added Hartley.

The two-hour CBS special, titled Oprah with Meghan and Harry, where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex sat for their first in-depth TV interview, debuted on March 7. In the interview, Winfrey first spoke one-on-one with Markle about why the Sussexes have moved away from royal life, his marriage to the prince and his philanthropic work, as well as the scrutiny of the press and the public pressure the couple faced.

Prince Harry joins the interview later, and the couple discuss their move to the United States and their plans for the future, as well as hints of the struggles that Markle and Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, have have faced the press review.

Representatives from ViacomCBS were not available for comment.
