Dak Prescott ran for the tunnel, raising her arms to fans and throwing memories at them after the Dallas Cowboys roughed up the Philadelphia Eagles in prime time.
The scene was in stark contrast to almost a year earlier, when the star quarterback was in tears as he climbed onto a cart in the same spot after the horrific ankle injury that ended his season.
Prescott threw three touchdowns in his first home game since the injury, Trevon Diggs returned a 59-yard interception for a score and the Cowboys beat the Eagles 41-21 on Monday night.
“Just grateful for everything I’ve been through, all the hard work that made me realize just to be back here to do what I love,” Prescott said. “It’s the best place to play football.
Ezekiel Elliott ran for a season-high 95 yards and two touchdowns, and tight end Dalton Schultz had the first two TD game of his career.
With the exception of a fumble in the end zone that gave the Eagles (1-2) their first touchdown, Prescott was effective, scoring 21 of 26 for 238 yards without an interception in the NFC East opener for both teams.
Prescott’s first game at AT&T stadium since the end-of-season compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in Week 5 last year against the New York Giants was also back to full capacity after limits imposed by the pandemic last season. For the Eagles, Jalen Hurts completed 41 yards to Quez Watkins, 38 yards to tight end Dallas Goedert and 27 yards to tight end Zach Ertz while finishing 25 of 39 for 326 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. The Texas native’s many passing yards and the second touchdown came with the game out of reach.
“I didn’t do a good enough leadership job,” said Hurts. “I didn’t handle our offense well enough, doing the things I needed to do. This one is on me.
