Dallas Cowboys: What does Ezekiel Elliott's incident tell Vegas about his judgment, and how will Roger Goodell react?

Ezekiel Elliott committed at least two errors of judgment when it opened this week.

First: a behavior that led him to be briefly detained and handcuffed by the Las Vegas police four hours before the start of his football camp at 9 am in Frisco.

Two: switch to the camera with KTVT (channel 11) a few hours later to tell viewers that he had grown up, that he had learned from his mistakes and that he "was making me a better nobody".

The apparent ripening of Elliott was a dominant narrative this off season. That's one of Cowboys fans want to buy. This is the last one to want to sell with a contract extension on the horizon. When Kristaps Porzingis, striker and Mavericks center, took part in a bar fight in Latvia last week, some journalists said: "Do you remember the date that preceded Elliott?"

It seems that the Cowboys running back took this as a challenge.

Stephen Jones spoke to reporters after the incident. The executive vice president of the club said the Cowboys respected Elliott, recognizing that everyone had obstacles and challenges along the way and that the last episode, on which the club was still investigating, should not overshadow the progress accomplished by Elliott.

Critics will reject this as empowering. But Elliott has matured if public evidence of transgressions is the barometer. This, or his advisers, have been more successful in keeping these indiscretions silent. Whatever the case may be, there are fewer episodes that put it in a bad light.

The 23-year-old has made progress. Now, is it still in doubtful situations that can lead to bad decisions? Sure.

Both can be true.

Elliott likes to go out. He likes to party. It will not stop suddenly. The goal is to do this responsibly, avoiding being placed in environments that can only cause negative spin-offs.

The surprise should not be that this morning Vegas video has appeared. The surprise is that anyone who actually thought those days were behind Elliott was for good.

Those who are predisposed to protect the Cowboy star claim that it does not matter. Those who like to see public figures fall victim will react with indignation or sufficient satisfaction. All are waiting for Commissioner Roger Goodell to determine the fate of Elliott.

In the absence of arrest and indictment, this situation should disappear quickly. Goodell has bigger problems in front of him right now. Kansas City receiver Tyreek Hill tops the list.

The suspension of Elliott's past puts him at greater risk in these cases. And even though Goodell was not expecting another fierce battle with his owner Jerry Jones about the discipline, the commissioner would not back down if he felt it was justified.

It is doubtful that what happened in Las Vegas justifies another confrontation.

So do not look for anything. Store it to remind Elliott that he still has a few steps to go through to reach maturity. Then ask yourself why he decided to go to an electronic dance music festival in the first place?
