Dallas Mavericks star Kristaps Porzingis, sad after a fight with fans in Latvia

Striker Kristaps Porzingis of the Dallas Mavericks has the bloody face after battling with supporters in his Latvian hometown, TMZ reported on Sunday.

According to the website, the three-meter-seven Porzingis was confronted with Liepaja by "a handful of Russians" who were "supposed to be upset by the fact that he had changed the team". The video circulating on social media seemed to show that Porzingis was bleeding from a cut above his eye. In the video, Porzingis dismissed a woman before trying to confront a group of people outside the camera.

Before Porzingis could reach his opponents, a crowd of people – including at least one policeman – intervened to calm him down, though one could still see Porzingis gesturing off camera.

"We understand that Kristaps was jumped and assaulted in front of a club in Latvia," spokesman Fox News told Mavericks in an e-mail. "We will provide an update if necessary."

Porzingis, who missed the entire NBA season with a knee injury, was drafted by the New York Knicks with the fourth overall pick in the 2015 draft. A favorite of the New York fans, Porzingis recorded a averaged 22.7 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game before tearing his access checklist in a match against Milwaukee Bucks on February 6, 2018.

On 1 February, the Knicks transferred Porzingis to Dallas with Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee in exchange for DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews, Dennis Smith Jr. and first-round picks in 2021 and 2023.

The incident this weekend is the second time that Porzingis made the headlines this year. In March, a woman accused the NBA star of raping her in her apartment a few hours after being injured in the knee. Porzingis denied the allegation.

The 23-year-old enters the final season of a rookie contract paying him $ 18.65 million over four seasons.
