Dallas police seek public assistance to solve the murder of two transgender women and the murder of a third

The latest victim, Muhlaysia Booker, 22, was found dead on Saturday, police said. The victims are all African-Americans.

A A 29-year-old transgender woman was fatally shot in a vehicle on October 21, 2018, police said. A 26-year-old transgender woman was stabbed several times on April 13, but survived and gave the police a description of the suspect, Major Dallas Weddington of the Dallas police told reporters.

"Right now, the ministry is actively trying to find out if these assaults, these murders are unrelated to each other," said Weddington. "To date, we have not been able to establish an affirmative link between these offenses. We work to see if there is a link. "

The police are working with the federal authorities to determine whether incidents should be labeled as hate crimes, Weddington said.

As part of its outreach to the LGBTQ community, the Dallas police will hold an LGBTQ public meeting on Thursday. The meeting was scheduled for last year, according to Amber Roman, the LGBTQ Liaison Officer of the department.

"The ministry is asking the public for assistance in closing these three cases," said Weddington.

A man arrested for assaulting a transgender woman in Dallas

In an article posted on Facebook, the Dallas police identified the deadly October victim as Brittany White. There are no suspects, said Weddington.

Weddington said that two victims were in the same area before the alleged offenses occurred, although it is unclear what two victims he was referring to.

Two victims got into a car with someone and a victim left someone in their car, said Weddington.

"Everyone needs to be vigilant and pay close attention to their surroundings when they are in public, and use caution when interacting socially," said Weddington.

In a separate incident last month, Booker, 22, was assaulted by several men in the parking lot of a Dallas apartment building, after what the police described as a small accident of the road. The video of the incident showed the suspects who hit her repeatedly while she was on the ground.

The suspects reportedly used homophobic insults during the assault, police said.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings condemned the storm at the time.

"I am extremely angry at what appears to be mass violence against this woman," said Rawlings. "Those who did this do not represent what Dallasians think about our flourishing LGBTQ community, we will not defend that kind of behavior."

A man, Edward Thomas, was arrested and faces charges in Booker 's assault in April. Weddington said Thomas, 29, had not been linked to Booker's death.

Lawyers representing Thomas on Tuesday issued a statement that the alleged assault against Booker in April was not a hate crime.

Thomas "has absolutely nothing to do with Booker's death," says the law firm's release Andrew Wilkerson and Michael Campbell Jr.

"We do not doubt that the truth will be revealed in this situation after a thorough investigation by the Dallas Police Department," the statement said.
