Adidas is releasing a new Damian Lillard shoe that seems to troll the Oklahoma City Thunder. But Lillard said it wasn’t her intention, nor the design of the shoe her decision.
The shoe colourway is the Thunder blue and orange, and the heel features Lillard’s statistical line from one of the most memorable games of his career: Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Playoff Series. first round between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Thunder.
In that game, Lillard scored 50 points and had seven rebounds and six assists. Lillard had three wins at the end of Game 5 to give the Blazers a game and a 118-115 win in the series, then bid the Thunder farewell before being mobbed by his teammates.
Many on social media have responded to the shoe by calling it a thunder troll. However, Lillard said on Sunday night that the shoe was just a variation that Adidas created to honor its players’ 50-point games and that more similar shoes would be released for other Adidas players such as James. Harden and Derrick Rose.
“For mine, they picked the OKC game,” said Lillard after the Trail Blazers’ 116-113 win over the New York Knicks.
Lillard said he had made no choice.
“I think I had a choice of other games,” said Lillard. “I’m ready to let this moment go, that’s why I think I wish it was a different game, because I don’t want that to happen because I’m just living the moment of two ago years. . Obviously, it was a great moment, but it is what it is.
