Damon Harrison could play for the Packers against the Bears

New defensive lineman Damon “Snacks” Harrison trained with his new team Thursday and could play in the season finale against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

On Wednesday, the Packers demanded the Seattle Seahawks waivers from Harrison. He was in the building and available Thursday.

“It’s a big recovery for us, especially at the end of the season,” coach Matt LaFleur said Thursday. “It doesn’t happen very often.”

Harrison, a returning All-Pro in 2016, has been one of football’s foremost defenders for the past decade. He’s 32 now, but the Packers still believe he can add value as a race defenseman heading into the playoffs.

LaFleur wasn’t 100% sure Harrison would play against the Bears, but the door is certainly open for him to make his Packers debut at Soldier Field.

“We’ll see how the week goes,” said LaFleur. “It’s always hard to ask someone, but then again, you’re dealing with a real pro, a veteran who’s been through a lot and seen a lot. It’s just, how quickly can we acclimate it to what we’re trying to do and what we’re asking it to do.

LaFleur said Harrison was a “problem to block,” which made him a good choice for the Packers’ defense line, especially against the run.

“I think he can give us a lot in terms of nose play,” said LaFleur. “He’s a very good running defender and has been doing it for a very long time. I’m just excited to get him into the building.

Harrison played six games and 138 shots with the Seahawks, who gave him up on Tuesday. The Packers tried to add him during the offseason and again during the season, but Harrison chose Seattle.

In Green Bay, Harrison will have another chance to play for a Super Bowl contender.

As a true nasal tackle or unique technique, Harrison should have a fairly straightforward role for the defensive line.

“I hope he can acclimatize fairly quickly,” said LaFleur. “What we heard is a really smart guy, obviously he’s got a lot of experience. It usually speeds up the learning curve for these guys. “
