Rumors spread on Thursday about Lions running back Andre Swift. We ignored them until something official emerged.
On Friday, something worked. A reporter asked coach Dan Campbell about the situation. Here is what he said: “These are just internet rumors that I don’t need to comment on at this time.” Campbell was then asked if the Swift was under investigation. “Not to my knowledge“Campbell said.
The “investigation” relates to an open investigation into a homicide in Philadelphia. Rumors posted online have linked Swift to the situation. Via Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, “in-depth reporting on the situation” has been happening since Wednesday.
“Philadelphia police declined to comment,” Garafolo said. “Sources indicated that D’André Swift was not under investigation. There is an opening [homicide] Case. But again, there is no indication that Swift is a suspect.
This never stops the online world from churning. Thursday, the Philadelphia Police Department posted a tweet it may refer to the situation. For now, there is nothing. If anything emerges, we’ll address it here.
