Dan Ryan’s shot seriously injures Illinois state soldier on Chicago’s south side IB freeway, says CPD

CHICAGO (WLS) – An Illinois state soldier was shot dead on Friday afternoon on the Dan Ryan Freeway near 43rd Street, Chicago police said.

The circumstances of the shooting in the Fuller Park neighborhood were not immediately clear.

Chicago Fire Department officials said the soldier was taken to University of Chicago hospital in critical condition.

Illinois State Police have confirmed the soldier was seriously injured and the investigation is in its infancy. State police said the shooting was “an officer involved” but did not specify how.

There is a strong law enforcement presence on the Dan Ryan at the scene and all lanes are blocked. Drivers should avoid the area.

The exact circumstances of the shooting were not immediately clear, nor was the duration of the lane closures or when traffic would be free to flow again. The investigation remains extremely active.
