Dana White still wants to be part of the Daniel Cormier group.
On Saturday night at UFC 241, Cormier suffered only the second defeat of his professional career when he fell in the fourth round of his rematch against Stipe Miocic.
After controlling the majority of the fight, Cormier succumbed to a series of body shots that finally allowed Miocic to go head hunting before winning the KO to win the heavyweight title.
Subsequently, Cormier said he was not ready to make a decision about his future, after hinting that the fight against Miocic could be the last fight of his career. For his part, the president of the UFC did not think that Cormier had an even or clever look against Miocic, but rather that he was beaten by the best fighter of the evening.
"He looked great until, as I said after the fight, whoever proposed this game plan from the body between the rounds was great. Brilliant. And it's even brighter than Stipe did, "White said of Cormier's future after the Contender series on Tuesday night.
"So yes, I think it's one of the best in the world and I do not think it should be retired, but it's up to him and his family."
White also objected to the new UFC ranking released on Tuesday, during which Cormier lost his first place as the best pound-to-pound fighter after his loss to Miocic on Saturday night.
Although the fall of the ranking is inevitable, White does not agree with the loss of Cormier according to the journalists who voted for the classification.
"I think he's one of the best in the world," White said of Cormier. "I was looking at the leaderboard today when they came out. It's crazy for me, but this guy, Saturday night, was the best pound-pound-book fighter in the world. He loses and falls to No. 7, to the No. 1 heavyweight contender and to the defender of the most consecutive title in the history of the UFC and Cormier goes to No. 7?
"It's crazy, it's much higher than that and it's one of the best to do it and it's still one of the best in the world."
White added that he had not spoken to Cormier or Miocic since Saturday night, as he wanted to give them enough time to heal before going into another fight.
As for Cormier's future, White said he would give the former two-division champion virtually anything he would ask if he kept him a little longer on the UFC list, including a potential trilogy with Miocic.
"I'll do whatever he wants to do, and obviously, whatever Stipe wants to do," said White. "Stipe must also want the trilogy."
