Monday’s episode of “Dancing with the Stars” revealed how the show will move forward in light of Cheryl Burke testing positive for coronavirus in the middle of the competition.
The dance pro, 37, who is fully vaccinated, broke the news on her Instagram on Sunday night in a moving video before Monday night. Due to the procedures in place to ensure the coronavirus does not spread to more cast and crew members, Burke noted that she should be quarantined for at least ten days, thus missing some of her. season 30.
Host Tyra Banks opened Monday’s episode by quickly acknowledging the situation and revealing how the show plans to continue with one of its dance duets unable to come to the studio.
“She and Cody Rigsby were in close contact,” Banks explained (via Yahoo Entertainment). “While he’s also fully vaccinated, just to be on the safe side he’s not in the ballroom tonight. However, that doesn’t mean they’re out of the competition.”

“Dancing with the Stars” explained how Cheryl Burke and Cody Rigsby will move forward given her positive diagnosis of COVID-19.

Banks said that rather than having Burke and Rigsby perform in front of the audience and the judges, they would instead be judged on the basis of a pre-recorded practice session in which they did their full dance for the week. While this was a less than ideal way to measure their progress in Week 2, their score of 24 out of 40 wasn’t bad, all things considered. Ultimately, Burke and Rigsby were safe for another week as “Karate Kid” actor Martin Kove was the first season 30 contestant to secure the boot alongside partner Britt Stewart.
After their performance, Burke and Rigsby were then brought in via video chat to sit remotely for the judging portion of their dance.

This allowed Burke to educate viewers about his condition and again advocate for people to get vaccinated.
“I feel great. I’m just grateful that I got the shot, so I know it could have been a lot worse,” Burke explained. “And I’m proud of Cody. He’s worked so hard this week. I just hope to be back in the ballroom soon.”
Burke first announced that she tested positive on her Instagram on Sunday, noting that although she was fully vaccinated with Moderna, she began to experience symptoms and was tested out of caution.

“The PCR test came back and it came back positive and I feel so bad… I feel so bad for Cody, I feel like I let him down,” Burke said while holding back tears. “I just feel like sh–, to be completely honest. And it’s so overwhelming because it’s Sunday and the show is tomorrow.”

She later added in the video: “Yeah, I thought I should let you know since I’ve been as open and as real and vulnerable as I can get here. I just hope I haven’t. prevalent. For those of you who don’t think COVID is a real thing, it’s fucking real, man. “
