“Danger!” Champion Matt Amodio’s stats continue to rise as he earns another spot in the Popular Game Show Hall of Fame.
The PH.d., 30 years old. student from New Haven, Connecticut, returned to the show Monday for its Season 38 premiere with $ 574,801 won over 18 games, placing him in third place on the “Jeopardy!” list of the all-time highest payouts in regular games, behind only legendary players James Holzhauer and Ken Jennings who took home $ 2,462,216 and $ 2,520,700 respectively.
He continued his winning streak that night and again on Tuesday, bringing his total wins to $ 678,801. Although he still has some time to go before he reaches Holzhauer’s total winnings, his victory on Tuesday earned him a different accolade in the “Jeopardy!” Hall of fame. With 20 straight wins, Amodio is now tied for third place in this category with Julia Collins, who had a similar winning streak in 2014 that earned her just $ 428,100.
In a preview of the episode, Amodio noted that being tied with Collins puts him in “pretty good company.”

He took to his own Twitter to note how happy he is to have been tied with Collins and how he saw her as a fierce competitor watching her run.
“I loved watching Julia on #jeopardy so much, what a pleasure to try to tie up her amazing streak!” he wrote.
In a follow-up tweet, he added: “Tied with @JeopardyJulia … amazing. I would say #Jeopardy’s dreams are coming true, but at this point I’m way beyond anything I’ve ever dreamed of!”

Not only will Amodio look to break Collins’ record on Wednesday, but he will look to increase his total winnings, further securing his place in third and moving closer and closer to Holzhauer and Jennings.

While there have been several champions in game show history, none have won their matches over more hosts than Amodio. He started his time on the show long after Alex Trebek died, winning match after match at the most chaotic moment in the show’s history as a weekly guest host. His 19-game winning streak so far has seen him answer questions from Robin Roberts, LeVar Burton, David Faber, Joe Buck and, in Monday’s Season 38 premiere, struggling Mike Richards.
