Matt Amodio is Danger!is the reigning fair and square champion whether people like it or not.
After the PhD student in computer science from New Haven, Connecticut hinted that his run on the beloved game show may be coming to an end, Matt won his 33rd straight game on Friday. The historic moment placed him in second place for the most consecutive games ever won, a feat previously held by Danger! prodigy James holzhauser with 32 wins (Ken jennings holds the first place with 74 games). Despite falling to third place, James didn’t pass up the opportunity to celebrate Matt on Twitter while providing a bit of humor.
“I’ve been betting sports since 2005 and this is the first time I’ve seen someone hit a 33-game parlay. Congratulations @AmodioMatt! ” Jacques wrote. “I haven’t seen anyone hit one for over $ 2.46 million yet. Stay hungry! “
The thirty-something Danger! The star responded with her own clever tweet, which referred to her strategy for responding to clues with “what?” Even if the correct answer is a person.
“I’m so proud that a quick glance at the #Jeopardy record book can now give the wrong conclusion on which of us is the best player,” Matt responded.
Since he first entered the Danger! on stage at the end of July, viewers called out to Matt for his “boring” habit. The repetitive complaints led to the ABC quiz show issuing a statement clarifying the rules, which ruled its answers “totally acceptable. “Having said that, not all Danger! fans remained content, and it seems even so far in the competition some just can’t get over Matt’s unique phrasing.
Reacting to James’ congratulatory tweet, a fan wrote, “James, at least you and Ken @KenJennings knew the correct English, that whats answer is so disturbing … no matter what the rules say … (A person is not a what is is a who..). “
Within hours, Matt saw the comment and fired back with a factual response to end that notion once and for all. “All that is, why, when and where is also what is, but not all that is which is, why, when and where is” he wrote.
In an interview with the Yale School of Engineering and Applied Science, where he attends and teaches, Matt revealed that reducing his choice of words helps him stay focused on his task.
“I have a strategy where I form all of my questions with a ‘what is’ at the start – then I can focus on the rest of the clue,” he told the university. . “Other people were very upset that I was robotic instead of forming a question differently each time. I was glad that Danger! said it was perfectly within the rules. I watched Danger! every day of my life, so I knew it was okay.
So Matt stands next to his “what” and Danger! fans will have to keep trying to get used to it. After all, he’s still going strong and his eyes are now on Ken’s debut title. In other words, it will be there for quite a while!
