Daniel Hemric and Noah Gragson got into a pit lane fight after Saturday’s Xfinity race at Atlanta Motor Speedway and had to be separated.
Hemric approached Gragson, who was doing a post-race interview, and pushed Gragson. Gragson freed himself from Hemric’s grip and threw himself on Hemric. Hemric fired back. While a member of Gragson’s crew attempted to pull Hemric away, Gragson punched Hemric. NASCAR officials have retained Gragson.
Hemric was upset by an incident during the race when Gragson backed up in Hemric’s car on the pit lane during a stop.
Hemric told Performance Racing Network: “It’s pretty straightforward, man. He had no idea what was going on on the track. We go down the pit route. The guy got up behind us, went to speed up as I got into my box. It forced me to walk around the guy and get into the (Gragson’s) box. I backed up. Yes, that ruined our two pit stops. I backed up. He decided to put it in reverse and cram it in the right front fender and put a hole in the nose of our Poppy Bank Toyota Supra. We had to pitch again and fix it.
“It was completely deliberate. It is absolutely ridiculous. Where I’m from, you get your eye out when you do things like that. “
Hemric also told PRN: “Oh yeah, (Gragson) piled it up the other way around and backed off. Poke a hole in the nose of our car, and I got a punch in his eye, so we’re equal.
Asked about the fight with Hemric, Gragson told FS1, “I don’t know why he’s crazy. We were behind him when we got to the pit lane… He was in our pit and I had to go around him without really knowing why he was there. I had to back down and get there.
NASCAR said Gragson was called to the carrier after the race. NASCAR said it would review the incident and if penalties were imposed they would be dealt with later in the week.
Justin Allgaier won the race. Gragson was fourth. Hemric finished ninth.

Last year, Gragson punched Harrison Burton after Burton repeatedly pushed him into the garage as they discussed their contact during last July’s Xfinity race at Kentucky Speedway.
