Italian actor and screenwriter Daria Nicolodi, who played indiscreet journalist Gianna Brezzi in Dario Argento’s cult classic “Deep Red” (Profondo Rosso), and who was a cult figure herself, has passed away. She was 70 years old.

The cause of his death, announced by his daughter Asia Argento and by Italian reports, has not been revealed.

Born in Florence in June 1950, Nicolodi made her acting debut in “Many Wars Ago” (Uomini Contro) by Italian master Francesco Rosi. She was working with helmer Elio Petri when, in 1974, she met Dario Argento, with whom she had a long-standing love affair, becoming her muse both on and off the screen. In 1975, Nicolodi gave birth to their daughter, Asia Argento, now a well-known actor, director, singer and media personality.

After the release of “Deep Red” in 1975, Nicolodi appeared in Dario Argento’s films “Inferno” (1980), “Tenebre” (1982), “Phenomena” (1984) and “Opera” (1987).

He is also credited with conceiving the original idea and contributing to the screenplay for Argento’s “Suspiria”. Dario Argento and Nicolodi separated in 1985.

In addition to working with Argento, Nicolodi also starred in Italian horror maestro Mario Bava’s last film “Shock” (1977).

In 2007 she worked with Dario and Asia Argento on “Mother of Tears”. She also played with her daughter in “Viola Bacia Tutti” by Giovanni Veronesi and in “Scarlett Diva”, directed by Asia Argento.

“Rest in peace my dear mother. Now you can fly freely with your great mind and you won’t have to suffer anymore, ”Asia Argento wrote on Instagram.

“I will try to continue for your beloved grandchildren and especially for you who would never want to see me so grieved. Even though without you I miss the ground beneath my feet, and I feel like I’ve lost my only true point of reference. I am close to all those who knew and loved her. I will always be your Aria, Daria.
