Zack Snyder has revealed what DC fans can expect from Steppenwolf and Darkseid’s “very complicated” relationship in his upcoming Justice League movie.
Zack Snyder teased fans with a brief explanation of why the dynamic between Darkseid and Steppenwolf is “very complicated” in his upcoming Justice League movie.
“The dynamic between the two, some things have happened in the past,” Snyder told IGN Fan Fest. “There are a lot of issues between them … I think it all comes down to it.” Snyder added: “The answer is that there is a pretty complex relationship there,” without disclosing further.
However, Snyder shared his take on Darkseid, admitting that he originally planned to set up the character to play a leading role in a sequel film. “He’s definitely the villainous sequel, but he’s definitely in full effect. Darkseid was originally scheduled to play a major role in the theatrical cut of Justice League but was largely cut from the film after Joss Whedon took over as director. Ultimately, Darkseid was only briefly mentioned by Steppenwolf. Snyder has confirmed that Darkseid will play a bigger role in his editing of the project and will once again be played by Ray Porter.
While Snyder had previously stated that a Justice League the sequel was not likely to happen, he recently said he would be open to discussions about it. “I think I would say, I would believe it when I saw it,” he said. “Glad to cross that bridge when I see him approaching.”
