The LA Rams lost Darrell Henderson to injury Sunday to the Colts, the extent of which was only known in the Henderson rib area, and Sean McVay provided an update – sort of – on Monday.

McVay told reporters Henderson had a “rib cartilage” injury and the Rams would be monitoring his pain and health on Friday to determine his status for the Week 3 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Rams signed RB Javian Hawkins to the practice squad on Monday in a move that may or may not be tied.

McVay expressed his “hope” and “optimism” that Henderson wouldn’t miss a game.

Henderson left the game against the Indianapolis Colts just as it moved from third to fourth quarter and was replaced by Sony Michel and Jake Funk. Michel did 10 carries for 46 yards in his absence, while Funk took a few shots and had no runs. Michel had 10 runs out of just 16 snaps, so his presence on the field was essentially just to rush the ball, not to block or receive, at least in this particular playing situation in Indianapolis.

However, with the New England Patriots, it was also similar to the role Michel played and his played on signals. may helped facilitate its trade outside of New England.

An extensive injury to the cartilage of the ribs may be too painful to play (the ribs dilate during exercise, breathing heavily) and may prevent Henderson from coming out for several weeks, or it may be manageable.
