Police in Aurora, Illinois, released a dashcam video on Wednesday that they say shows an officer being attacked and strangled during a traffic stop last month.

Aurora police say the officer was repeatedly punched in the head and body in the attack on June 21 before being strangled by a female passenger to the point where the officer lost “ability. to breathe “.

Following an investigation into the incident, the three suspects, Jennifer Taylor, 24, of Chicago; Sheba Taylor, 26, of Aurora; and Paul Sherrod, 28, of Aurora, were indicted by a grand jury last week and charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated assault and battery, police said.

“Because of the strangulation and because of the research we know of how quickly someone loses their life because someone prevents them from breathing, we believe the appropriate charge was attempted murder at first degree, “Kane County State Attorney Jamie Mosser said, according to FOX 32 Chicago.

The alleged attack occurred after an officer attempted to stop a vehicle that police said had a stop sign. Dashcam video shows the moment the officer approached the car.

After yelling back and forth, the officer was seen telling a passenger to stay in the vehicle. As she failed to do so, the officer informed her that she was under arrest for obstruction.

Before the woman was taken into custody, the driver exited the vehicle and was seen approaching the officer, while threatening to fight him, the video showed. “I’m going to knock you out, brother,” the driver would have been heard to say.

The officer informed the driver that he was also under arrest for obstruction, according to the video. The driver then fled, police said.

Police said the two passengers ran after the officer and punched and kicked him in the body and head. At the time, the officer said he heard a man’s voice and was “repeatedly punched on the head from several angles,” police said.

He was then attacked from the right-back by a female passenger, who placed her forearm around the officer’s neck and strangled him to the point where he nearly passed out, authorities said. Shortly after, the video shows other police officers arriving at the scene. The suspects were taken into custody.
