It looks like we’re getting a new special research called “A Mega Discovery” involving Beedrill and his Mega form.

RESOURCE ID: quest_special_dialogue_megabee_1_2 TEXT: I see you were able to get some Beedrill Mega Energy, my theory there is Mega Energy for different Pokémon and that each Pokémon needs a certain amount of Mega Energy to Mega Evolve.

As expected, Mega’s evolutions are finally returning to normal. This suggests that we might be able to mega-evolve our Pokémon, and then use it as a Mega Pokémon for a few battles until their mega energy runs out.

This seems to suggest that being best friends with a Pokémon will reduce the amount of Mega Energy required for Mega to evolve it.
How to get more Professor Mega Energy?

It looks like the Kanto starters will be the first round of mega raids. Which suggests a slowed down, or at least phased, deployment of the Megas.

Well, it looks like you can do quite a bit of stuff with your Mega Pokémon as long as they’re Mega Evolved.

The speculation is that Mega Energy has replaced the previously mined Mega candies. It also appears that the amount of Mega Energy you can have will be capped and your rewards will be reduced if you hit it.

Conclusions and speculation
It does seem like they’re very close to the release of the Mega Pokémon, and we potentially know a bit more about their evolution.
It looks like your Friendship level with your Pokémon could affect how much Mega Energy you need to evolve them, so it might be a good idea to start leveling up your Friendship with at least one of each of the Kanto Starters. and a beedrill to get you ready. their release.
