Davante Adams and Packers at odds after breaking off long-term extension talks

After failing to mend even part of the fence shared with Aaron Rodgers, it looks like the Packers’ attempt to build a bridge to a future with his No.1 receiver has also stalled.

The Packers and Davante Adams have broken off long-term contract extension talks, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported, according to people with knowledge of the situation. The two sides have been negotiating a deal for months, but have reached a bad position, Rapoport added.

This is far from the first time that two given parties have been unable to come to an agreement on an extension before an existing agreement expires, but this news is important because of what came before it. . Rodgers has been unhappy with how the Packers have been handled for months now, and with his now disgruntled best teammate from the same group of front office executives, the Adams and Packers representation have also stopped communicating.

With those two outcomes in mind, it looks like the Packers may want to reconsider their negotiating tactics.

Adams ‘representation worked behind the scenes to secure a deal, but the Packers’ proposals failed to recognize Adams as the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL, Rapoport reported. As the league’s leader in touchdown receptions (18) and fifth-best receiver in yards last season, Adams has a pretty strong case to be paid as such. At 28, there’s no better time than the present to cash in for Adams, and he has the stats (and the playing tape) to justify such a paycheck.

The current state of contract talks (or lack thereof) between Adams and the Packers only adds to the dark cloud that has been hanging over Lambeau Field since the spring. We can expect Adams to perform in 2021 – we can’t say the same for Rodgers at this point – but there’s no avoiding this big green elephant (Dark Packers Green, or the hue clearer of US currency, your choice) in the room. It’s never ideal to have your two best offensive players – and really, the best two players on your entire roster – unhappy, and especially not at the same time.

The road to a Jordan Love-led season won’t be easier with this information, and we can be sure to hear Adams being asked tirelessly about his contractual status from here on out. The financial strain appears as if she is here to stay in Green Bay in 2021.
