Dave Creek, creator of Bob’s Burgers, dies in skydiving accident

Dave Creek, lead character designer for popular animated Fox sitcom “Bob’s Burgers,” died Thursday of a skydiving accident last weekend.

A graduate of the California Institute of the Arts with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, class of 2005, he also served as an assistant professor there, teaching character animation and leading character workshops. The news was first reported by CartoonBrew and confirmed by colleagues at Creek. “Bob’s Burgers” and Fox have yet to release an official statement.

Creek has worked on “Bob’s Burgers” – the popular show created by Loren Bouchard centered on the Belcher family and their burger restaurant – since its inception in 2011. Its animated credits also include “Central Park”, “Brickleberry” and “Happiness Is a Warm Blanket, Charlie Brown.

Creek was an avid skydiver and his Instagram feed is filled with records of his enthusiasm for the sport. The designer’s other big passion was creating detailed treehouses around bonsai trees, a feat he recorded religiously on his blog.

The industry is in shock and tributes are pouring in.

“If you love Bob’s Burgers, you loved Dave Creek. He was an amazing and adventurous artist, funny and outgoing, and one of the most amazing and interesting people I have met. I have often thought that Dave really knew how to live, and I wish he could live again. Rest in peace, mate, ”tweeted Wendy Molyneux, writer of“ Bob’s Burger ”.

“We lost a great artist and a great friend at Bobs today – our lead character designer Dave Creek. Here is one of his many creations, Lady Tinsel, and one of his incredible tree houses, ”tweeted Bernard Derriman, CEO of“ Bob’s Burgers ”.

Bob’s Burgers director Simon Chong tweeted, “Today we tragically lost our lead designer and friend Dave Creek. A wonderfully bright and talented man who I can guarantee you designed your favorite character on Bob at one point. I will miss you, mate x “
