David Ayer slams ‘Suicide Squad’ studio cut, praises new movie

David Ayer posted a moving letter to Twitter on Thursday that praised James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” and revealed information about its director’s cut of the 2016 polarizing film “Suicide Squad.”

“I put my life into Suicide Squad. I did something amazing – My cut is a complex, emotional journey with ‘bad people’ who are shit and rejected (a theme that resonates in my soul), ”Ayer wrote. “The studio cut is not my film. Read that again. And my cut isn’t the 10-week director’s cut – it’s a fully mature cut of Lee Smith standing on top of the amazing work of John Gilroy. That’s all the brilliant Steven Price score, without a single radio song altogether. “

He continued, “He has traditional character arcs, amazing performances, solid 3rd act resolution. A handful of people saw it. If someone says he saw it, he didn’t see it.

But will this latest letter inspire DC to #ReleaseTheAyerCut? While after the release of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League”, many DC Comics fans begged Warner Bros. to release Ayer’s full vision, said Ann Sarnoff, CEO of WarnerMedia Studios. Variety in March that the studio will not “develop the David Ayer cut”.

Ayer’s letter continues, “So yes, it should be clear by now, I have nothing to complain about in myself. Never had. And why should I? Every day, breathing is a gift. I thought my story was going to end in a grave or cell a long time ago. So the ones I see are bonus rounds. I am so honored and blessed to have the career that I am having. To leave? After my kids watched me come home every day after the studio took control of the edit with my heart torn? Who would I be to them if I quit?

“I never told my side of the story and I never will. Why? For the same reason, no one will ever know what happened to my submarine. I keep my alliances. I’m old school like that. So I closed my mouth and took the tsunami of sometimes shocking personal criticism. Why? This is what I have been doing all my life. Real speeches that I prefer to get shot at. I am so proud of James and excited for the success to come. I support WB and am delighted that the franchise has the legs it needs. I support everyone, the cast, the team. Every movie is a miracle. And Jame’s brilliant work will be miracles of miracles. I appreciate your patience. I will no longer speak publicly about this matter.

James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” hits theaters August 6 and has already received rave reviews, including Ayer who wrote “I’m so proud of James and excited for the success to come. I support WB and I am “Glad the franchise has the legs it needs. I support everyone, the cast, the crew. Every movie is a miracle. And James’ brilliant work will be miracles of miracles.”
