The Cubs opted utility David Bote at Triple-A, as Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times was among those at tweet. It seems that this is the way to go to allow the return of the righteous Steve Cishek.
Bote, 26, has been part of the MLB team since the start of the year in a surprise overtime in April. It started well, but cooled considerably in June and July. After a recent run of losses, he sat very close to the league average with a .257 / .352 / .429 attack on 310 appearances at the plate.
Given these difficulties, it is not surprising that Bote lost playing time during the season. He especially appeared at the third base, with Kris Bryant move to the outside field of the corner in such a case. The defensive indicators had a more blurred view of Bote's work out of favor than last year, for what it's worth.
More than anything, this change simply represents an end-of-August alignment management – although it also reflects the evolution of the compositional hierarchy. Bote will play regularly in the Triple-A category before the lineups multiply in early September, when he will surely be recalled by the majors.
