Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth will play the last concert of his career on January 8, 2022, at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, a Roth spokesperson confirmed to Rolling stone.
“I throw in the shoes,” Roth told the Latest Vegas review on Friday, August 1, before sending the audio of his version of the conversation to the Van Halen News Desk fan site. “I am retiring.
“I’m encouraged and compelled to really understand how short the time is, and my time is probably even shorter,” Roth said.
Roth also spoke of the loss of Eddie Van Halen, who died of cancer on October 6. “I thought I could have been the first, frankly,” said Roth, who added that he was in frequent contact with Van Halen’s drummer Alex Van Halen. “I would have thought the Marlboro man would have gotten me. Hey Ed, the objects in the rearview mirror are probably me. And my doctors, my teachers forced me to really take care of the fact that every time I go on stage, I put that future in danger.
Roth gives five concerts at the House of Blues, starting on New Years Eve; he said to Las Vegas Review that he was planning 75 rehearsals for these shows with his backup band. “These are my last five shows,” he said.
Roth concluded his phone call by saying, “I gave you everything I had to give. It was an incredible race, great, no regrets, nothing to say about anyone. I will miss you all. Stay freezing.
