David Lee Roth: “I’m retiring”

David Lee Roth seems to call it a career.

“I throw in the shoes. I’m retiring, ”Roth confessed in a phone conversation with the Las Vegas Review Journal. “This is the first and only official announcement. … You have the news. Share it with the world.”

The iconic singer, best known for his years at the helm of Van Halen, still has a handful of shows on his schedule that he plans to honor. The rocker will travel to Las Vegas for performances at the House of Blues in Mandalay Bay on New Years Eve, New Years Day, January 5, and January 7 and 8.

“I’m not going to explain the statement,” Diamond Dave continued. “The explanation is in a safe. These are my last five shows.

The rocker further noted that he had kept in touch with drummer Alex Van Halen. “Al and I have spoken, and I can’t speak for him yet,” Roth said, noting that Alex was aware of the singer’s announcement. Roth added that the former band members “talk to each other constantly, two or three times a day. We laugh like pirates.

The legendary frontman also admitted that he had given a lot of thought to the “departure of my beloved classmate recently”, a reference to guitarist Eddie Van Halen, who died on October 6, 2020.

“I’m encouraged and compelled to really understand how short time is, and my time is probably even shorter,” Roth explained, pondering his own mortality. “I thought I could have been the first, frankly,” admitted the singer. “And my doctors, my managers, made me really take care of the fact that every time I go on stage, I put that future at risk.”

“I gave you everything I had to give,” Roth explained. “It was an incredible, excellent race with no regrets, nothing to say about anyone.”
