–Savannah Grace Childress was found in Arkansas on Saturday night after a chaotic streak where her captor allegedly shot a police officer and left before escaping to safety.

William Robert Ice, 38, is the alleged kidnapper and died in a hospital Sunday, according to a statement from the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities discovered Ice was found near a McDonalds restaurant in Lonoke, Arkansas, near Interstate 40.

Inside the vehicle, officers found Ice, who they said committed suicide at some point after walking away.

Amber Alert issued for Savannah Childress, 14

Authorities said that on Saturday two police officers from Lonoke recognized a Dodge sport utility vehicle linked to Childress’s disappearance. The vehicle was parked at the restaurant near I-40. Officers approached the vehicle and Ice pointed a gun at them, shooting and seriously injuring an officer. The second officer is unharmed.

An Arkansas State soldier saw the vehicle exit the parking lot and began to chase it. The ice eventually entered a snowbank, where the vehicle became invalid. Childress, a passenger, then got out of the vehicle and ran towards a state soldier.

Officials said Ice was also wanted in at least two states in connection with other cases of child predators. Investigators found Ice took Childress from her home in Denton on February 11.

Childress, 14, had been missing for over a week. Davidson County authorities issued an Amber Alert for her on February 12. Special agents will help Childress return to North Carolina on Sunday.

Ice’s body was submitted to the Arkansas State Crime Lab to determine the mode of death. The injured officer is in stable condition in a hospital.

Ice had an address in the Jackson Center, PA and was wanted by authorities in Pennsylvania.
