The actor discussed the accident this week in an episode of his “Armchair Expert” podcast.

He said he was hesitant to talk about it because he said he “didn’t want to make a habit of drawing attention for being hurt.”

According to Shepard, he was overtaking a few others on Sonoma Raceway in California when he braked “hard enough for the rear wheel to lift off the ground for a good 100 yards.”

“I was totally guilty,” he said. “I thought I could slip in between the two, but someone came in and I was already fully braked and couldn’t go anywhere.”

The “Top Gear America” star slammed a bumper, hovered over the handlebars and landed hard.

Shepard said he wanted to keep riding, but it all turned out to be too painful. He found out why after he went to the hospital.

“The final count was four broken ribs, the collarbone is broken in three places and I need surgery,” Shepard said.

On Wednesday, he shared a photo of his bruises on his verified Instagram account.

“Thank you Armcherries for all the good wishes and concern,” said the caption. “I’m all together and morale is good 🙂 Sorry for worrying.”
