Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser is the latest Democratic politician to live by the “Rules for You But Not For Me” mantra with the help of liberal news agencies that have ignored or downplayed her budding scandal.
Bowser was widely given a pass from mainstream media after she was spotted without a face mask at an indoor wedding reception on Saturday night, hours after her indoo mask tenure took effect.
The Democratic mayor held a wedding at The Line DC hotel in the district’s Adams Morgan neighborhood, where she and hundreds of others went without a mask, the Washington Examiner reported.
Bowser’s office told Fox News the wedding ceremony took place outside on a rooftop and Bowser “wore a mask inside as per warrant,” but viral photos suggest otherwise. Bowser has been scrutinized on social media, but cooperating media have not bothered to keep citizens up to date.
DC BOWSER MAYOR PHOTOGRAPHED WITHOUT MASK AT WEDDING RECEPTION AFTER MASK MANDATE RESTORED
The New York Times has so far ignored the story, while The Washington Post has not covered the potential scandal until Bowser has denied it. His hometown newspaper ran an article titled “Mayor Bowser Denies Violating Newly Reimposed Mask Mandate,” which focused largely on talking points in his office downplaying any wrongdoing.
CNN shrugged off the scandal over the weekend before finally tackling it Monday morning. “New Day” co-host John Berman responded to co-host Brianna Keilar by acknowledging that “the optics are terrible” by dismissing Bowser’s political blunder.
Berman asked, “She wasn’t, in fact, to our knowledge, breaking the new rules, was she?”
Keilar said that was a fair point, but wondered if she “broke the spirit” of the rule.
“I understand, if you’re a politician you don’t want an image that raises questions, that’s bad politics. The question is whether she did something functionally, politically wrong. and I don’t know, ”Berman said. “I mean, I guess it really depends on whether she was actually eating or drinking at the time she was photographed without wearing a mask.”
THE PHOTOS APPEAR TO SHOW THE MAYOR OF DC CELEBRATING THE MASKLESS HOURS OF THE BIRTHDAY BEFORE THE MANDATE COMES INTO FORCE
Keilar then returned, “It looks like it could be during the toast. Doesn’t it?”

The story was ignored on MSNBC other than a quick reference to Republicans using COVID protocols as a means of attacking Democrats. The brief remarks took place on “Way Too Early,” which airs on MSNBC at 5 p.m. ET.
Just hours before the mandate went into effect, separate photos on social media appeared to show Bowser celebrating his next birthday and posing for unmasked photos alongside comedian Dave Chappelle. However, the Times, Post, CNN and MSNBC also ignored this story.
Jessica Chasmar of Fox News contributed to this report.
