Washington, DC, Mayor Muriel Bowser was torn apart on Sunday for posting a muffled auto theft prevention tweet just days after a fatal Uber Eats driver hijacked.

Bowser shared a DC subway police video on “preventing auto theft” following the death of Mohammad Anwar last Tuesday, who was killed after two teenage girls allegedly knocked him out and hijacked him.

“Auto theft is a crime of expediency. Follow these steps to reduce the risk of your vehicle becoming a target. Remember the motto, #ProtectYourAuto, ”Bowser wrote on Twitter on Sunday.

Anwar, 66, died when he was thrown from the car onto a sidewalk. The two girls escaped without injuring themselves.

Bowser’s tweet was greeted with confusion and contempt by those online looking for words of sympathy.

“The victim blames a lot?” Rita Panahi wrote on Twitter.

One person said the mayor’s alleged incompetence was not new.

“Mayor Bowser keeps finding new lows”, Porter Orvetti wrote. “Immigrants and citizens of DC deserve better.”

Another user, Gabriella Hoffman, said the tweet might have been released before Anwar died, but was “extremely deaf”.

“Bowser’s silence is deafening,” Hoffman said.

At a press conference Thursday, Bowser described Anwar’s death as “tragic, senseless, heinous, ridiculous”.
