Police released video of the drive-by shooting that killed a 6-year-old girl and five injured adults outside a Popeyes in Washington DC

Nyiah Courtney was riding his scooter down a sidewalk when a silver four-door sedan crossed the intersection and opened fire – sending people outside the fast food restaurant to disperse, according to footage from the incident on Friday night.

The child was rushed to hospital in a police car, but could not be rescued, police said.

Authorities offer a reward of $ 60,000 for information on his killer.

“The cowards who committed this crime entered this community with no regard for human life, no regard for Nyiah’s life and opened fire,” said Robert Contee, head of the Metropolitan Police Department. told reporters on Saturday.

“This cannot and will not be tolerated. It is time for us to say enough is enough.

It’s unclear what sparked the shooting, which took place around 11 p.m. at the intersection of Malcolm X and MLK avenues in the Congress Heights section of town.

Nyiah was due to be entering freshman in the fall, Contee said, adding: “And now that won’t happen again and frankly this is unacceptable to me and should be to all residents.”

The child’s kindergarten teacher told the US Sun that Nyiah “had so much potential.”

“There were so many things that she cared about in life and wanted to do,” Dayna Hudson told the outlet. “She shone in the classroom and will be sorely missed.”
